History
Blue-and-yellow cross banners appear in the 1557 ducal arms of the future John III, and Sweden’s flag history is generally traced to the mid-1500s. Its present design is regulated by the 1982 Flag Act.
Design
The yellow cross on blue follows the Nordic cross form. The colours come from Sweden’s arms: three golden crowns on blue and the golden cross dividing the greater coat of arms.
