History
The orange-white-blue Prince's Flag was first recorded in 1572. During the seventeenth century, orange was gradually replaced by red. When the Netherlands regained independence in 1813, both versions were used, but red-white-blue was preferred on public buildings. Queen Wilhelmina fixed the colours as bright vermilion, white and cobalt blue by royal decree in 1937.
Design
The flag consists of three equal horizontal bands in bright vermilion, white and cobalt blue. The official service proportion is 2:3.
