History
A commission comprising Jonas Basanavičius, Antanas Žmuidzinavičius, and Tadas Daugirdas approved the yellow-green-red design on 19 April 1918. The Council of Lithuania adopted it as an interim national flag that year, and the 1922 Constitution gave it legal status. The flag was banned after the Soviet occupation on 15 June 1940. It was raised again on Gediminas Tower on 7 October 1988 and regained national-flag status on 18 November that year.
Design
The flag consists of three equal horizontal bands: yellow at the top, green in the middle, and red at the bottom.
