History
Parliament approved the blue-and-white cross flag on 28 May 1918, soon after independence. The Act on the Finnish Flag was enacted the next day, 29 May.
Design
The flag has a blue Nordic cross on a white field. Zacharias Topelius described its colours as the blue of the lakes and the white snow of winter.
