History
The red-and-white cross flag has been known as a Danish symbol since the mid-1300s and ranks among the world’s oldest national flags still in use. The story that it fell from the sky during a battle in 1219 is a later legend unsupported by historical evidence. Since 1 January 2025, Danish law has defined Dannebrog as the national flag of the Kingdom of Denmark.
Design
Dannebrog has a white cross extending to the edges of a red field. The cross is offset toward the hoist, the same basic form used by other Nordic cross flags.
